Consider My Day Brightened

A couple of weeks ago I found a funky little website that I didn’t really ‘get’ but thought was pretty nifty. Even niftier, when I checked out the about page, I discovered they were giving away free pinback badges. Whee! I entered my mailing info and promptly forgot about it.

Today I got an e-mail from the package center saying I had a package from ‘The Regulars.’ Huh? ‘Well,’ I says to myself, I says, ‘I guess it’s better than a package from The IRRegulars!’

Ba-dum-pum psssh!

Yeah, anywho. So I opened up the package and found this:

How fun! I love getting mail. Especially surprise mail.

Enclosed in the photo mailer (very considerate!) were a photo and five pinback badges with The Regulars’ logo, and a set of instructions:

I’ve already given one to a person younger than myself. I fully intend to follow the instructions (my favorite is the third one). It’s such a fun concept, like an anonymous scavenger hunt in reverse. I feel like I’m part of some sort of artsy experiment or project or something.

And photo is so wonderfully random.

united a...ssmonkey?

Apparently a bunch of other people, from all around the world, have gotten their badges and photos too (each one seems to be different).

So, I still don’t know what The Regulars are up to, but it’s safe to say that they’ve piqued my interest and I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for what they’ve got planned next. This is simply a great example of what the internet can do – create connections between strangers, and not just in the creepy sexual predator way. Seriously though, I’ve sort of been stuck in a rut of boringness and predictability, and this was such a welcome and curious turn for the day. I feel inspired to change someone else’s day in a similarly anonymous way somehow.

To be continued…

I WANT PINS. You’re also very lucky that the R can be construed as a promotion of your first initial.

Off to the website
