You know, it’s gotten to the point where enough people misuse ‘it’s’ and ‘its’ that it NEVER looks right anymore. Even when its usage IS right. It’s crazy how it’s gotten this out of hand.

SEE WHAT I MEAN? Doesn’t that just look wrong? How is it that the stupid people are winning this battle and making the smart people stupid? Darwin, where you at?

I agree. I’m particularly appalled by people defending the use of “irregardless” simply by saying, “It’s so commonly used, which means it’s totally a word!”

People confuse “their”, “they’re”, and “there” all the time but that doesn’t make their mistakes right! Just saying!

p.s. I hope this doesn’t spawn a debate over “irregardless”.

I guess I’m just taught well… I correct English Native speakers all the time. o_O Which I find amusing, but also slightly annoying at times… like: ‘it’s YOUR language, learn to speak it!’

But you know, that’s just me..

Richard

Yeah, I have problems with its and it’s recognizing too. I usually use them properly, though.

your and you’re is another good one.
“your awesome and i love you’re blog!”
haw haw haw.

Too true. I often find myself double-checking what I write, because it looks off. But I know it’s right! Gahh.

I think most of the words I spell out look wrong if I’m looking at them too hard.

For instance, today at work I was spelling out thw word receipt. And I was thinking to myself, dude this isn’t how it’s spelled. So there I was contemplating whether it was receipt or reciept for like three minutes.

Its and it’s….yeah, it can be confusing. I just have to remember to remind myself that ‘its’ is possessive.

gally

blah, i find this kind of mistakes sooo annoying, both in french and in english, makes me cringe everytime.
i’d never made the mistake before and lately i’ve caught myself red-handed a few times… damn you misspellers and your insidious brainwashing!!

Talon

inflammable…argh, I hate it

alexis

dude, i’m just glad to know how to spell vacuum.

Newton

It’s and its is inconsequential. It’s more dramatic if someone misspells a word like QUARTER as QUARTAR or QAURTAR.

Theresa

I actually never have that problem. The only problem I really have with any words is the fact that in grade school, I learned this nifty little rhyme, ‘I before E except after C’ and the fact that some words are spelled ‘ei’ (like weird or their) messes me up sometimes. I suppose we all have our retard words.

Amanda

you’re, your, “yous”, their, they’re, it’s, its, what on earth is the world coming to?! It’s not even difficult to get it right – I learnt English as a third language and within the second year of immigrating (oh here’s another one, emigrate vs immigrate) to NZ I’d gone from being in the lowest reading group at primary school to the highest. It’s appalling.

Yo—I thought you went away from the internet for a while there, glad to see you’re back! Anyhow, hope all is awesome with you and life et al.
